Purpose. Impact. Sustainability.

A community-powered recycling system built from the ground up.

The Product & Mission

What we built:
A fully operational plastic recycling company in La Guaira, Venezuela — from machinery, logistics, and supply chains to community education and outreach.

Impact in numbers:

  • 60 tons of plastic processed monthly
  • 30+ community partners trained
  • 10+ tons of beach waste collected in 2023
  • Dozens of jobs supported directly & indirectly
  • Venezuela’s first structured recycling program for underserved areas

The Challenge. The Work. The Impact.

The Challenge

There was no real recycling culture, no sorting system, and no structured program. Communities wanted to recycle but had no guidance or organization.

The Work

  • Designed an entire recycling operation from scratch
  • Modified industrial machinery to adapt to unstable electrical grids
  • Built a complete collection + sorting + processing system
  • Taught free recycling courses across 30+ communities
  • Created Recyclesaurus™ — an educational mascot for kids
  • Launched a wide outreach program with local leaders

The Impact

  • Residents now sort waste correctly
  • Families earn income from recyclable materials
  • Cleaner streets & beaches across La Guaira
  • LGC became a regional sustainability reference
  • A functioning recycling economy where none existed before

The Digital Solution

A Free Recycling App for Informal Recyclers

The Problem

Small-scale and informal recyclers in Venezuela lacked a simple way to track plastic inventory, identify materials, and increase the value of what they collected. Everything was done by memory or paper — leading to losses, confusion, and missed income.

What I Built

To support the communities we trained, I designed a free, pre-loaded recycling inventory app. The app helps informal recyclers:

  • Identify plastic types
  • Keep digital records of materials collected
  • Organize inventory with harmonized naming
  • Improve sorting accuracy
  • Increase the value when selling to recycling centers
  • Feel empowered and included in the new recycling economy

Why It Matters

  • This app became a bridge between low-tech communities and the high-tech backend of the recycling industry, helping them earn more, waste less, and participate in a sustainable circular economy.
